ZeroGrav – May 2019 – Another slice of Abundance Pie please

Last month, I wrote in my ‘Superhero Syndrome‘ post that “Nothing is built for free, it is always taking from one to give to another”. This month I will directly contradict that statement and support that there are infinite resources for everyone, in all directions. And here we are in May, so two monthly blog posts in the span of one week, contradictions abound, how is this physically possible. Haha…

The abundance mindset focuses on the mentality that not only is there enough for everyone, whether it be money, food, jobs, etc or even intangibles like love and friendship, in fact there is more than enough to go around. It can be pictured by imagining an Abundance Pie. Rather than me having one slice, you having one slice, and other ‘strangers’ or ‘competitors’ taking a bite and the pie quickly vanishing, the mindset is that this pie is infinite. You can have a small slice, or a big slice, and your friends can too, heck even have a giant slice if you are still hungry, the pie only grows as you ask more of it.

The best example I have is when someone loses their job, which is an all too common occurrence nowadays. The scarcity mindset will immediately tell that person to turtle up – Reduce spending, stop going out, panic, there is a dark cloud overhead. On the other hand the abundance mindset spins things completely the other way – Immediately go buy your large coffee, trust this will only lead to a bigger and better opportunity, network, leverage your strengths, and enjoy your free time while you can! There is plenty of opportunity out there and you just need to align yourself with it. I know many firsthand accounts of people out of work for extended periods, and also several examples where the individuals did exactly as above and quickly moved to higher and better opportunities. Think big!!

I am still reading through the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, however I am fairly certain the abundance vs scarcity mindset originated from Covey’s studies, and was furthered by Chopra.

Personally I love being in the abundance mindset, bring on the pie! It is very refreshing to not be envious of others, to not look at others as competition, to give freely, and honestly to not really care what others are doing or how much pie they are having. It is very empowering. Granted I’m not always in this mode (last week’s post for example, haha), however we all need reminders sometimes, to get us back in alignment.

Let this post be a positive reminder, there is enough pie for all, and the more you share the more you will receive.

Happy Spring…
